ND Baseball Loses 5th Straight Big East Game

It wasn't too long ago that the Notre Dame baseball team was closing in on a pretty solid seed for next week's Big East Tournament.

Now the Irish will be just happy to qualify.

Notre Dame lost its 5th straight Big East contest on Thursday, falling 5-0 to UConn at Frank Eck Stadium.

Notre Dame sits in 7th place in the Big East with two games left against UConn this weekend. The Huskies, who have played two less conference games that they will not make up, are percentage points behind ND. Cincy sits a half-game back of both. Only two of those teams will make the tournament.

Because of games that will not be made up due to rain outs earlier in the year and with the possibility of more rain outs this weekend, its unclear if the Irish will definitely qualify with a split with UConn this weekend. They may need additional help if they do not win both games.

The Irish and Huskies were scoreless until the 5th. That's when UConn put two runs on the board.

That's all UConn really needed as the Irish couldn't score a single run.

Big East Pitcher of the Year candidate David Phelps will take to the mound for ND on Friday. Game-time at Frank Eck Stadium is 6PM.
