Cubs win opener in St. Louis

Aramis Ramirez and Felix Pie each hit two-run homers which was enough for the Cubs to win over the Cardinals, 5-3 Friday in St. Louis. It got a little tight at the end but closer Ryan Dempster was equal to the task.

Jason Marquis again pitched well but got into trouble in the eighth. The Cardinals had runners on first and third when reliever Neil Cotts plunked So Taguchi on an 0-2 pitch loading the bases. No problem for Dempster. He struck out Preston Wilson on three pitches and then coaxed Adam Kennedy to ground out on a bang-bang play at second.

Marquis is now 2-0 against his former team.
