Rain didn't stop a fiesta in the stands of Alumni Field Friday night.
Thousands of Mexicans packed the Notre Dame soccer field to see their home country of Mexico battle the Irish men's team in the Spring Futbol Fiesta.
It was the third time Mexico has sent a team to face the Irish. This time it was the Under-20 National Team, featuring many international professional players. Notre Dame put on quite the show defeating the Mexicans 1-0.
It was almost like a road game for the Irish as the stands were filled with support from local Mexican fans. Those fans were quick to thank Notre Dame for bringing their home country to their home in South Bend.
One fan, Alex Santisteban, said it best, "I love Notre Dame. I love Mexico. I love soccer."
Irish head coach Bobby Clark is hoping his team's performance tonight impressed enough fans that they will come out and support Notre Dame in the fall. From the effort they showed on Friday, that is very possible.
