Jimmy Clausen had a new piece of equipment at practice on Tuesday--a dark visor--shielding his eyes from the view of media members.
As we reported on Newscenter 16 at 11 on Monday night, Clausen is believed to have a black eye after being involved in an altercation outside of CJ's Pub in Downtown South Bend following Saturday night's game against UConn.
Clausen was with family members, teammates and families of teammates that night.
Reportedly, he left the bar with his date and then returned when they learned she forgot her purse. That's when words were exchanged with a man who had been in the bar. A fight ensued as Clausen suffered facial injuries.
Two sources say that Clausen was "sucker punched."
There are also reports that the alleged assailant is a former student at Notre Dame.
As expected the situation was the first question at Charlie Weis' press conference Tuesday afternoon, but Weis did not answer the question--declaring the press conference was about the 'Stanford game' and that he was there to answer questions about Stanford.
Clausen will not be available to the media on Wednesday as he usually is. Notre Dame sent word hours after Weis' press conference that players will not be available to interviews this week.
