The game was tied at 3 in the 8th when Joe Crede came to the plate for the Sox. Crede blasted a shot to deep left center that just had enough to clear the fence. It was a 2-run blast, putting Chicago up 5-3.
The Sox were one out away from victory in the 9th, when Marcus Thames hit a 2-run home run of his own to tie the game up at 5 and send it to extra innings.
After two straight innings of scoreless baseball, Polanco drove in Ivan Rodriguez in the 12th to give the Tigers the win.
