The Irish men's basketball team opened the new Purcell Pavilion with a dominating performance, beating North Florida 86-65 Saturday afternoon in the season opener for both teams.
Luke Harangody and Ben Hansbrough led the way for the Irish with 19 points each.
It was the first game for Hansbrough with Notre Dame after sitting out last season following a transfer from Mississippi State.
Ben was 3-of-3 from 3-point range in the 1st half, pacing the Irish during a 10-0 run that gave Notre Dame an early 23-5 lead.
Tim Abromitis added 13 points off the bench for the Irish.
Jonathon Peoples hit a 3-pointer 30 seconds into the game for the first official points in the new arena.
The Irish return to action Monday night at 7pm when they host St. Francis.
