Red Wings Open Playoffs with Win

It took less than five minutes for the Detroit Red Wings to score their first playoff goal of 2007. Notre Dame grad Brett Lebda assisted Valtteri Filppula on the play.

It was all smooth sailing from there as the top-seeded Red Wings knocked off Calgary 4-1 in the first game of the opening round of the NHL playoffs.

Detroit also got goals from Nicklas Lidstrom, Pavel Datsyuk and Mathieu Schneider. Datsyuk ended a 26-game scoreless streak in the playoffs, dating to Game 7 of the 2002 conference finals.

The Red Wings leads the series 1-0. Game 2 is Sunday at 1PM in Detroit.
