Silverhawks fans who were brave enough to face the cold bundled up and helped to keep team spirit up at Coveleski Staduim tonight. “I actually personally really enjoy it, its not really baseball weather, but its not that bad,” fan, Peter Levi says.
Another fan, Matthew Barnes shares, “I’m having a good time. Out with some friends, watching the Silverhawks kick some butt on the season opener.”
While the game was the main attraction, at least one young fan was hoping to catch something other than a foul ball. “I can get a little cold and get sick, I can stay home from school, so I wont have to do no homework, “ Toby Danneffle says.
While Thursday’s weather may not have been ideal to draw in a big opening game crowd, Silverhawks owner Joe Kernan knows there is no crying in baseball. “It.s opening day and yeah we wish it was a little warmer, but having grown up here having played ball here in march and April when I was a kid this is nothing.”
There are were lot of seats open at Coveleski tonight, but all things considered management says they are happy with the turn out for opening day. “Last I checked we were close to having a thousand people, so that’s more than we expected with the cold temperatures.”
Cold temperatures aside, Silverhawks fans were excited for the season to get swingin.
