White Sox win on 9th inning "Hit"

A.J. Pierzynski delivered a big hit with the bases loaded in the 9th to give the White Sox their first win of the season this afternoon over Cleveland.

Actually, Pierzynski took a hit. Indians pitcher Livan Hernandez hit Pierzynski in the left elbow, forcing the game-winning run to cross the plate in the 4-3 win.

The Sox started the 9th inning rally with back-to-back hits from Jermaine Dye and Joe Crede. The Indians then intentionally walked Tadahito Iguchi to bring Pierzynski to the plate.

Bobby Jenks (1-0) pitched 1 1-3 innings for the victory. Starter Mark Buehrle lasted just 1 1/3 innings, leaving the game in the 2nd after being hit on his pitching arm by a line drive. X-rays were negative.

The White Sox will host Minnesota (3-0) for a three game set, beginning tomorrow night.
