ND womens hoops team advances

Tulyah Gaines hit two free throws with 16.5 seconds left in regulation to send the Irish womens hoops team to a 61-59 win over Cal in the first round of the NCAA tourney in Pittsburgh. ND now gets the number one seed, North Carolina, which demolished Prairie View.

After having an 11-point lead, the Irish saw Cal storm back to take the lead in the second half. Charel Allen had 13 and Melissa Lechlitner added 11 for Notre Dame which took advantage of a pair of missed free throws to go on an 8-3 run to seal the game.

Muffet's squad is now 20-11 on the season and is now 10-1 in games played in Pittsburgh.
