Skylar named Preseason Big East freshman of the year; Irish picked to finish 2nd

Skylar Diggins was named the Preseason Big East Freshman of the Year at the annual conference Media Day in New York City on Thursday.

The South Bend Washington grad is the nation's top incoming player and has created a giant buzz in her hometown as she gets set to continue her career at Notre Dame.

With Diggins coming in and the Irish returning every player from last year's squad, Notre Dame was picked to finish 2nd in the Big East. Defending national champion UConn was a unanimous selection for the top spot.

Irish seniors Ashley Barlow and Lindsay Schrader were named to the conference's All Big East team, which consists of 12 players.

UConn senior Maya Moore is the Preseason Player of the Year.

DePaul, Louisville and and Pittsburgh round out the preseason top five.
