When a team goes 4 for 13 from the free throw line and shoots only 18 % from outside the arch, things are not going well. That was certainly the case on Friday as the Irish fell to Winthro, 74-64 in Spokane.
A spurt of 35-8 by the Eagles put the deficit at 20 for the Irish before ND made a great comeback. A jump hook by Luke Harangody gave the Irish a one-point lead but Winthrop didn't flinch and finally hit free throws that sealed the game.
It's the first win ever for a Big South team in the tourney. The Irish had started with a win in their previous three NCAA appearances. Colin Falls led ND with 14 which ends the season at 24-8
