It's a feeling no team wants to have, let alone this team, in this way.
“When we don't win, it leaves up with a disgusting taste in our mouth and we don’t want to taste that again,” Irish linebacker Brian Smith said Saturday night after Notre Dame’s loss to USC.
The last time the Irish lost, it also came in the final seconds. That one was at Michigan last month. The team responded with three straight down-to-the-wire victories over Michigan State, Purdue and Washington.
Now… can the Irish do it again?
"Oh, we're definitely going to put it behind us,” quarterback Jimmy Clausen said. “It’s a tough loss right now and a lot of guys are down but we'll come back."
"We don’t have choice but to bounce back and put this behind us,” fellow captain and center Eric Olsen says.
5-2 Boston College is up next Saturday at the Stadium. The Eagles are coming off a 52-20 winner over NC State.
"How we are going to go move forward is that we have a team that has beaten us six times in a row,” head coach Charlie Weis said. “Boston college is rolling in and they've had our number here for quite some time and that's the next mission we have to take to task."
the Irish can't get the USC game back, but they can learn from it and gain something out of closing the margin against their arch-rival.
"we were able to claw our way back against one of the toughest teams in the country and its kind of tough to look at the positives when you lose, but we are going to have to,” Olsen said. “We don’t have a choice but to move on, and we're going to have to take the positives and learn from the negatives and that's the biggest thing."
It’s a 3:30 kickoff Saturday at the Stadium between the Irish and Eagles. Countdown to Kickoff gets you started at 2:30.
