Irish sent way out west in NCAA tourney

The selection committee for the NCAA mens basketball tourney didn't think much of the Big East this year and Notre Dame was caught in the backlash. ND was projected by most as a four or five seed but when the bids came out, the Irish were seeded sixth and will play not in Chicago, or Buffalo, or Lexington but in Spokane, Washington. On a clear day, you can see Seattle.

Mike Brey's squad will face Winthrop, the champs of the Big South on Thursday, March 18th. If Notre Dame were to win, the Irish would face the winner of Oregon and Miami of Ohio.

Indiana, a seven seed, faces Gonzaga in Sacramento while Purdue, a nine seed, goes against Arizona in New Orleans
