There was a big surprise on the Irish practice fields Tuesday as Notre Dame began to prepare for USC.
Star wide receiver Michael Floyd was practicing in full pads.
Now, don't get too excited.
Floyd couldn't do anything involving contact, nor even try to catch a ball, and he will certainly not play this week against USC.
Floyd broke his collar bone just before halftime of the Michigan State and had to have surgery. He was expected to be out for the regular season.
But Irish head coach Charlie Weis said #3 is progressing faster than expected and perhaps could be back as early as the Pitt game on November 14th.
Weis said they will have a cat scan in early November to determine when Floyd might be able to come back.
