Irish take out the Orange at Big East Tourney

For only the second time in history, a Notre Dame mens basketball team is into the semi-finals of the Big East tourney. The Irish won on Thursday over Syracuse, 89-83.

Russell Carter had 24 while Colin Falls had 23 and Luke Harangody added 20 for Mike Brey's team that is now 24-6 on the season. After trailing by two at half, the Irish grabbed the lead with a 7-0 spurt in the second half and never trailed again.

Syracuse hurt its own cause by hitting on 16 of 29 from the gift line with the game still in doubt. Notre Dame stretched the lead to ten before the Orange rallied toi cut the lead to four points on two occasions late in the game.

Rob Kurz hit on a key three and Falls did the same to give Notre Dame some breathing room.

Notre Dame sweeps Syracuse for the first time in ten years and now faces Georgetown on Friday at 7pm.
