Lady Panthers Welcomed Home

A large group of "Lady Panthers" received a warm welcome back to the west side of South Bend today!

Hundreds of people gathered at the high school Sunday afternoon to welcome the girls back to South Bend.

Last night the Washington High Girls Basketball team beat Columbus East to win the 4-A state championship.

Last year the Lady Panthers had a chance for the 4-a state title but lost.

So this year they came back with a vengeance!

“The only people that were going to stop us was ourselves so we came back and won the state championship,” says Skylar Diggins a senior player with the Lady Panthers.

It’s the first time a girls basketball team has ever won a state title for South Bend Community Schools making history for the district and Washington High.

Some say 35-hundred fans were at the game to cheer the team on.
