Brandon Walker has seen his ups and downs as the Notre Dame field goal kicker over the last two years.

Of course, Irish fans remember the 'downs' a lot more than the 'ups.'

Now, as Walker is set to begin his 3rd year as the Irish, he may not get to kick after all.

There is an intense battel for the Irish field goal kicking job between Walker and freshman Nick Tausch.

Irish head coach Charlie Weis says Tausch has a legit shot of not only winning the field goal kicking job but also the kickoff job.

Tausch is battling NorthWood grad Ryan Burkhart and David Ruffer for the kickoff job.

Weis says Tausch gets the ball off in a hurry on field goals and can produce a lot of hang time on kickoffs. Both qualities he likes.
