The intial meeting between Notre Dame and West Virginia in February saw the Irish jump early only to fall to the Moutaneers. On Wednesday it was the exact opposite but with the same result. WVU took as much as a 20-point lead in the first half and withstood a second half rally to win 74-62.
All-America Luke Harangody scored 27 as he almost brought ND back by himself. Notre Dame eventually cut the lead to seven but that was as close as the Irish would get. Harangody scored 15 of 18 in the rally. Kyle McAlarney scored 15 for ND.
Notre Dame was outrebounded by 20 and shot under 26 per cent in the first half. Alex Ruoff, who was held scoreless in Saturday's WVU loss to Louisville, lit up ND with 25 points.
The Irish now stand 18-14 and will await word as to where they will play and against which team in the NIT>
