The Notre Dame hockey team will play Michigan State with heavy hearts tonight.

The program announced this afternoon that radio announcer Mike Lockert passed away late last night or early this morning.

He was just 43.

They have no more information at this time.

Lockert has been the radio voice of the Irish for the past seven seasons.

The team will honor him before tonight's 7pm faceoff against Michigan State.

Known for his enthusiasm and love for the game, Lockert has been a favorite for his passion and dedication towards Irish hockey.

He has been there every step of the way as the Notre Dame program has grown to one of the best in the nation.

Lockert previously served as Media Relations Director for the Silver Hawks.

The Irish radio broadcasts have aired on Cat Country this season, which is a part of the WSBT Radio Group. Radio Sports Director Darin Pritchett will fill-in for this weekend's two games against MSU.
