Here are some notes coming out of the Notre Dame football press conference from Friday morning.
Charlie Weis is officially the team's offensive coordinator and will call the plays next season.
-Weis says it's still up in the air whether he will call the plays from the field or up in the booth, like he did for the Hawaii game. Weis joked that his wife Maura would like to call from the booth, not because she's concerned with his health but because she wants to win games.
Corwin Brown is the #2 man in charge.
-With Weis spending almost all of his time with the offense, Brown will oversee the rest of the team in his new role as associate head coach. If Weis coaches from the box, Brown will be the go-to-man on the field, talking to officials and being in control of the team.
Jon Tenuta is now Co-defensive coordinator and will call the defensive plays.
-Tenuta will be co-defensive coordinator with Brown. With Brown's new duties, Tenuta will take some of the load by calling the plays.
Romeo Crennel will not coach the defensive line.
-Weis admitted he had serious discussions with the former Browns head coach, but decided this week it would not work out. Crennel is having hip surgery next week.
New running backs coach Tony Alford, offensive line coach Frank Verducci and grad assistant Bryant Young were introduced to the media.
-Young, a 14-year NFL veteran and 4-time All-Pro, jokingly asked if "all grad assistants get this much attention."
Irish apparently have a tonsil problem.
-Weis noted that a number of players have had their tonsils taken out recently, which is pretty unusual. He didn't name names, but said it could cost an offensive lineman for example up to 25 pounds.
Weis injury update.
-Charlie had successful surgery on his right knee. Doctors also looked over his left knee and found that his MCL is recovering well. Weis said he is holding off on surgery on the left knee because he currently has no pain.
Weis gave a big congrats to coach Brey and the basketball team.
-Weis was in attendance Thursday to see the Irish snap its 7-game losing streak and the first thing he did Friday morning was congratulate the team.
