Luke Harangody picked up his 4th foul with 15 minutes left in the game, but never fouled out as the 13th ranked Irish beat #9 Georgetown 73-67 at the Joyce Center Monday night to bounce back from a tough loss at St. John's on Saturday.
"You don't have to ride them too much after Saturday," Mike Brey explained. "I'm really happy about how they delivered."
The reigning Big East Player of the year finished with 31 points and 11 rebounds as Notre Dame extended the nation's longest home win streak to 44 games.
"We're real happy to get that St. John's loss out of our heads and get a big win over Georgetown---it's great," Harangody said.
Harangody scored Notre Dame's final 13 points of the 1st half as the Irish took a 39-28 lead into the break.
Georgetown made a run to start the 2nd half, and then Harangody picked up his 4th foul. But the Irish didn't give in.
"When Luke went out, we just went out and made some plays," Ryan Ayers explained.
Ayers scored five of his eight points in the three minute span that Harangody sat on the bench.
"Everyone just calmed down and said 'no big thing'," Ayers said. "We're such a mature team and know how to play and feed off each other."
When Gody came back into the game, he knew he had to be careful not to pickup that 5th foul.
"I had to pick my spots and put myself in a position not to get that foul," Harangody said. "That was key for me being able to stay in the game."
Kyle McAlarney scored 17 points on five 3-pointers. He was busted open towards the end of the game and needed stitches.
Tory Jackson had 10 points, 7 assists and 5 rebounds. Luke Zeller pitched in with valuable minutes off the bench.
The Irish also kept the rebounding battle close, something they were not able to do in the loss to St. John's.
The Irish are now 11-3 on the season and 2-1 in the Big East. They are back at home on Saturday to host Seton Hall at 2pm at the Joyce Center.
A victory Saturday would give the Irish 20 straight Big East home wins, tying them with Pitt for the longest all-time conference home win streak.
