Kerri Hanks assisted on two goals to set an NCAA record as the undefeated and top ranked Irish women's soccer team beat Florida State 2-0 at Alumni Field Friday night in the NCAA quarterfinals.
The Irish, now 25-0 on the season, are headed to the Final 4 for the 3rd straight season, looking to win their first national championship since 2004.
Hanks' corner kick 18 minutes into the game went right to the head of freshman Jessica Schuveiller who knocked in her first career goal to make it 1-0.
In the 2nd half, Hanks delivered a pass in the six to Taylor Knaack who put the game away with the goal.
Hanks becomes the first player in NCAA history to reach 73 goals and 73 assists in a career. She had been tied with soccer phenom Mia Hamm, who had 102 goals and 72 assists in her career.
The Irish have knocked Florida State out of the NCAA tournament two of the last three years. Two years ago, it was in the Final 4. Last year, it was Florida State which knocked Notre Dame out of the Final 4.
The Irish will now face either Stanford or Portland in the national semifinals next Friday in North Carolina.
