It’s the fifth round of high school football playoffs in Indiana, and round four of playoffs in Michigan. Watch NewsCenter 16 at 11 for highlights of our local teams.
Pizza Hut Spotlight Game of the Week:
Penn at Carmel (5A Semi-State)
- Time: 7:30 p.m.
- Stadium: Carmel’s Greyhound Stadium
- Records: Penn (10-3), Carmel (12-1)
- Last meeting: Penn 28, Carmel 7 (1996 Semi State)
- Notes: The Kingsmen have not faltered since week four of the season and needs that same intensity against the Greyhounds, who are led by D-1 recruit Morgan Newton, a dual-threat snap-taker. Penn LB Mike Carroll had a big week against another running quarterback last week, and will look for the same success this week. The winner gets either Ben Davis (who both teams lost to this season) or Center Grove.
NorthWood at Bellmont (3A Semi-State)
- Time: 7:30 p.m.
- Stadium: Bellmont’s Worthman Stadium
- Records: NorthWood (11-2), Bellmont (12-1)
- Last Meeting: Never met.
- Notes: The Panthers have now won a pair of close games against tough teams, and the Braves will bring the same kind of challenge. Bellmont has rolled through the postseason, being truly challenged for the first time last week in 25-21 victory over Yorktown. The winner gets either defending 3A state champion Indianapolis Bishop Chatard or Evansville Memorial.
Jimtown at Lewis Cass (2A Semi-State)
- Time: 7:30 p.m.
- Stadium: Cass’ Owens Memorial Stadium
- Last Meeting: Jimtown 28, Lewis Cass 13 (2005 Semi-State)
- Records: Jimtown (11-2), Lewis Cass (12-1)
- Notes: The Jimmies have to go through the Kings to get to Indianapolis, just like in 2005. Jimtown came away with a 28-13 victory at Cass that season, and eventually wound up with the 2A state crown. The road goes through Walton again, as the Kings have not lost since week two, but the Jimmies have only given up three touchdowns this postseason. The winner gets either Brownstown Central or Heritage Christian.
East Grand Rapids at Lakeshore (Division 3 Semi-Finals)
- Time: 1 p.m. Saturday
- Stadium: Otsego High School
- Records: East Grand Rapids (11-1), Lakeshore (11-1)
- Last Meeting: East Grand Rapids 21, Lakeshore 0 (2003)
- Notes: The Lancers squeaked out an 18-15 victory over East Lansing last week, but now get the defending Division 3 champions in Pioneers for a berth into the Division 3 finals. Lakeshore has only faltered against St. Joe (MI), while the Pioneers fell midseason to Lowell (MI). The winner of this game gets either Inkster or Bloomfield Hills Lahser in the D-3 finals.
