For Mike Carroll, it just makes sense that his career at Penn doesn't end before playing arch rival Mishawaka one more time.
The Kingsmen senior linebacker will lead his team into Steele Stadium Friday night at 7pm to face arch-rival Mishawaka in the sectional semifinals.
Penn won the regular season meeting 17-0.
"We talked earlier in the season when we played Mishawaka the first time," Carroll said about what this rivalry game means to both sides.
"This just adds another element--at their place, tough place to play. And in the playoffs---winner go home. So there is definitely finality in this game."
Carroll by the way is sporting the ultimate school spirit haircut, with half his hair colored gold and half his hair colored black.
It's all about that type of mentality that makes Carroll and the rest of the Kingsmen Wild Bunch defense so devastating.
"Defense is more to do with an attitude than scheme or anything else," Penn head coach Cory Yeoman explains. "You gotta have guys that are willing to play hard and fast that way."
The Wild Bunch certainly does. Penn's defense has produced four shutouts this season, including last week's 38- win over Elkhart Central. They are a main reason why the Kingsmen have won six games in a row after a 1-3 start.
Yeoman expects Friday night's clash to be a defensive battle.
"Mishawaka has the same type of defense," Yeoman explains. "They play great defense as well."
The Cavemen are also 7-3 and are coming off a 35-14 win over Riley in the opening round of sectionals.
We'll hear from Mishawaka Thursday on Newscenter 16 at 11 about the matchup.
