Mishawaka's defense was very tough in the 1st half, but they couldn't stop Joey Hecklinski.
Midway through the 2nd quarter, Hecklinski found junior WR Mike Kendzicky on a 63-yard touchdown strike to put St. Joe up 7-3.
Jorge Diaz followed the Kendzicky score with a big blocked punt with a minute left in the first half. Hecklinski then rushed it in from six yards out to put St. Joe up 14-3 at the half.
The Indians went on to the 21-10 win to improve to 3-0 on the season, and 1-0 in the NIC.
The loss was the first of the season for Mishawaka.
Penn may have started the season 0-2 for the first time since 1981, but its Northern Indiana Conference win streak was never in jeopardy Friday night.
Brandon Drudge scored two early touchdowns as the Kingsmen earned the first win of the season 42-0 over Marian at Otolski Field.
The victory is the 145th straight in conference play for Penn.
At School Field, Andrew Adeniyi returned a punt 88 yards for a touchdown, and then took a kickoff return to the one yard line to open up the 3rd quarter as Clay picked up their first win of the year 28-14 over Adams.
The Eagles are 1-2.
In other NIC action, Elkhart Central beat Washington 17-6. It's the first loss of the year for the Panthers.
