In 2007, more freshmen made an impact for the Irish than in any year in Notre Dame history.

In 2008, the frosh who could make the biggest impact is wide receiver Michael Floyd.

The 5-star recruit already looks like he belongs. At 6'3", 215 pounds, Floyd could quickly develop into Jimmy Clausen's favorite target.

And learning the playbook has apparently not been a problem.

"Picking up things like route running and plays, I thought it came to me better than I thought it would," Floyd explained Friday at freshmen media day.

"I thought it would be way harder getting into the transition from high school to college, but I think the help from the coaches and players really did a big thing for me."

Floyd does admit, however, that camp has not been easy in other ways. He says all the workouts have worn him out a bit.

One benefit for Floyd and the rest of the team was that Saturday was an off day due to freshmen orientation.

Floyd got a chance to rest his body before suiting up to play in front of the student body Sunday night at the Stadium.

Don't know him on a personal level, I guess you know both coaches and are able to compare. As far as a better coach, get real, the only reason he still has a job at Washington is beacuse they saw what happened when he got the boot at ND. They will be ending thier relationship with the "great" TW at the end of his contract. Ty was far too nice, he had no backbone, had he shown some fire, his players may have played better for him. Explain why Weis was able to get Quinn and Samardzija to become one of the most prolific duos in ND history and Ty could not... Let me guess, they were racists and could not stand playing for a black coach, is that it? Get over it.

There is no argument about who is a better coach, but let's let October 25th decide that, shall we? They will each have their own recruits and they have the same amount of time at their current locations. As for being a good person- my grandma is the best person I know. Pretty sure I don't want her coaching ND Football.

Oh great! Here goes the argument again about Ty versus Charlie. Leroy, I hope you have stats to prove it. I have plenty of stats to prove otherwise as far as coaching goes. Ty was nicer though I thought.

When Weis starts to wins games no one will say anything bad about about him. T.W. was a much better coach and person!

Say what you want to about Coach Weis, just don't call him a poor recruiter. He has taken a page from Pete Carrol and his book of recruiting. Just think how bad off we could be had T.W. still been here, ouch. Keep bringing in players like Mike Floyd who are motivated to win and step up to make it happen. GO IRISH!!
