Newscenter 16 Sports Director Jeff Jeffers sat down with Irish head coach Charlie Weis for a 1-on-1 interview on Wednesday.

Weis talked about a number of subjects including his philosphy of his players "diving right in."

"I think that there's more jumping in every day," Weis said to Jeffers. "It isn't like you got 105 diving in, but everyday, you see more."

"I think that, you always know when you start the year that you know the handful of guys that you can count on. But you know, there's so many other guys, that it's not a question whether they're good football players. It's whether or not they buy in."

The Irish are certainly still in the middle of seeing who will dive right in as they continue double sessions and the training camp mentality.

"I think that every day there's more and more and more," Weis continued. "And that's a good thing."

Because they do not play their first game until September 6th, the Irish do not begin preparing for San Diego State until Friday.

To hear more from Coach Weis, stay tuned to Newscenter 16 on the air and on the web in the coming days.

And for his in-depth thoughts and for a full Irish season outlook, don't miss the "Countdown to Kickoff" Pre-Season Special Friday, August 29th at 7pm on Newscenter 16.

HAHAHAHA keep going you are only confirming what I already said. I believe the incident with the Irish fans throwing water bottles and swearing at the Irish team as they left the field took place 2 years ago. A really sad thing for the players to have the people who are supposed to support them do that. I felt bad for the whole team. By the way I doubt any one would have to drop to their knees to kiss your rear end, that would be the wrong end of your body. Get a life. Join a conference and run with the big dogs or stay on the porch. Brady who?

Let's not forget MSU spearing the middle of ND's field.

Posted by: Rabid Irish Fan Location: Standing Tall on Aug 22, 2008 at 03:43 PM
Sorry Mr. Crybaby, I think you were refering to the Notre Dame @ Michigan game in 2006...They threw bottles on the field, not at the players, drama queen. And let's not get started on schools that do dumb things. Let us see...BC tore up the visitors locker room at ND when they WON a game at ND (CLASSY). Then you had Pete Carrol and his goon squad throwing bottles into the stands last year, I sat right behind thier bench and saw it. How about Georgia Tech fans throwing dead fish at the ND bench years ago... Any school has it's share of classless fans, I'm not one of them, I respect the other players and coaches.

What a rant.. I don't want anyone dropping down to thier knees, like I said before if you don't like ND, good for you. I would never swear and throw bottles at our players, that is down right dumb and never called for. Furthermore I would give anyone doing such a thing an ear full. Also, as I said before, I do give credit to other teams and if the only thing keeping you from supporting ND is a conference, we don't want your support. And why not give stats or do you mean don't give stats when they weaken your argument? I really doubt that I have turned anyone into an Irish basher by my comments, if they bash the Irish they did it long before I was around. Furthermore, when did you see anyone toss water bottles at our players? I was EVERY home game last year and did not see that happen. Let me take back that drop to the knees comment, if you come here and bash the Irish or thier fans, you can drop to your knees and kiss my Irish rear end. Your little illiterate post is what is sad.

Very typical of an egotistical ND fan. You make it sound like everyone should drop down on their knees just because ND is mentioned. No thanks, despite what your over inflated ego thinks they are no better than anyone else. Once you get that thru your thick skull you will understand why so many people don't like your attitude and resent ND because of it. Granted not all ND fans are like you. Are you one of the "fans" that swears at and throws bottles of water at the ND players as they leave the stadium after they loose a game? That's one of the saddest things I have ever witnessed! I could support ND, IF they were in a conference and the fans like you who can't give credit were credit is do and would stop quoting statistics every time your cards are called would stop that behavior. You have a long way to go before you are going to get all the respect you think your team deserves. GO ANYONE that is playing ND!

Anonymous (jr.) Why would the Irish want to hang with the Big 10 (11) when they are in the Big East Conference in Basketball??? Or are you just another hater who only knows a little about Irish football? Did you know that ND is Big East for everything, football is the exception. And why don't you ask some of the fans that ND plays in football if they want the Irish to join a conference, no, they don't. Why?? Because of the major exposure the other schools get with the TV time. Notre Dame, again, is helping other schools all across the country. GO IRISH!!!

Anon, not sure where you're getting your "always plays the military schools". Yes, ND always plays Navy, but there is a historic reason for that. I will let you google that. As for the other military academies, in the past 8 years ND has played Air Force 4 times and Army ONCE. Last I checked, 50% and 13% is not ALWAYS. Way to get your excuse in now about Michigan- oh, it's ND's turn to win... whatever. Be a true fan and stop the excuses. ND Fans do give credit for a job well done- read a blog and you will see us acknowledge mistakes and give credit. ND tried to schedule Northwestern, Toledo, Utah, Miami of Ohio, and Illinois, but they were already booked w/ U of M.

Like I said, Michigan is in a conference and they play a schedule that averages just about the same as ND. Also looks like over half of M's schedule is "walk over teams" but I guess it is ok for them, just not us. I am still waiting to hear how being in a conference makes a difference, you play just as tough a schedule as we do on average. And your wrong, I give credit when the other team wins. Futhermore, I never made any excuses for the Irish playing as bad as they did last season, it was terrible and as a fan I voiced my displeasure with the program, get it right. I wonder, if ND beats Michigan will you still claim to be a Michigan fan or will you just slide over to whoever you think will beat ND next? And as far as having "less haters out there", no thanks, I like the laughs. Just like when you say we play all three military schools, right. They play Navy in 08' and 09', that's it, not all three. So, let's get your tears dried up, would you like to trade say, Navy for Toledo.

Posted by: Anonymous on Aug 22, 2008 at 09:05 AM
Very true anonymous. ND wont join because they insist on making their own weak schedule. They know they can't hang with the Big Ten. Basketball or Football.

Posted by: Kimberly Location: South Bend on Aug 22, 2008 at 07:53 AM
Anonymous, Don't group all ND fans as the same! Perhaps you should read my last post. I always give credit to other teams for performing well whether it is against us or not. I know Rabid does and so does ND Fan as well. That sounds to me more like a coward backed into a corner response to me. If you also remember correctly, we lost to Navy last year, a game I would prefer not to recall, but Navy did a heck of a job on the field that day and deserved the win. I was glad to see the Midshipmen win for a change, because we sure did not deserve the win! As far as joining the conference, ND has their reasons why they did not want to join. So what if they remain independent.

Posted by: Anonymous on Aug 21, 2008 at 11:15 AM
Rabid Iris fan, please give me a break. ND always plays the military schools so that is 3 wins right there and then they lace their schedule with other "walk over" teams. As far as IF they beat Michigan this year I would say their time had come after a couple of 38 to 0 butt kickings. All the excuses you mentioned sound more like Notre Dame excuses that the arrogant, self centered, and holyer than thou ND fans come up with. Ever notice how ND fans don't give credit to another team for a job well done? Probably not but the rest of use do. Maybe if ND and their fans were not so into them selves there would be less haters out here. And as I said join a conference and them come talk to me. The BIG 10 offered to let you in but you couldn't run with the big dogs so you stayed on the porch!

Posted by: Rabid Irish Fan Location: Standing Tall on Aug 21, 2008 at 09:21 AM
anon, "soft schedule" I get so tired of you ND hating little girls whining about the schedule. If you had a clue, you would see that over the past 10 seasons the Irish have a average SOS of about 15th toughest in the nation out of 119 NCAA schools. Matter of fact, OSU, USC, U of M are all bunched together right in that range. Also, they play 12 games this season 6 at home 6 away and in 2009 it will be 7 at home 5 away, hardly the majority. So what excuse do you give for Michigan, they have an sos that is right there with the Irish on average and Michigan is in a conference. I wonder, if the Irish beat Michigan this season what will be your excuse, I mean you can't just say "they played better than us and deserve to win." You will instead blame a new coach, lack of returning players, ND cheated, Notre Dame was taping your practices, Rich Rod had a brain aneurysm, Jimmy Clausen wore your players out the night before with "Beer Olympics." I can't wait.

Craig, I never rule out Michigan. U of M, Purdue, and MSU always are gunning for ND. Michigan may get it together sooner than you think. They also have 2 games before the ND game, so they get a little more experience. I have ND winning 8 games, but Michigan is only a possible 9th for me. After last year's spanking, I would hope ND is humbled and ready to work for their wins. From what I've seen, they are, but we'll see after SDS on Sept 6. Thanks for posting, it's good to see a non-ND fan that's not just a hater.

Posted by: Kimberly Location: South Bend on Aug 20, 2008 at 08:22 PM
Craig, I may not be a die hard fan of Michigan, heck I am not even a fan, but do give them their respect. They are a heck of a ball club with a rich history. But I am afraid they are in for a very rough ride this year. Especially with Floyd Carr retiring and all. I don't know if ND will beat them this year or not, no offense, but I would be very happy if they did, being a true ND fan and all. I just can't wait for the season to start. GO IRISH!

can charlie come out and play! get rid of him, before we go 3 and 9 again!

Posted by: Craig Location: Bremen on Aug 20, 2008 at 03:28 PM
As a Michigan fan, I choose to remain silent about the UM-ND match-up. With only three starters returning on offense, it may be a bit rough. ND is hungry to whoop our tails after the last two showdowns. ND has a favorable schedule, but their season could go either way. The skill players are there, but the O-line sucked so bad last year, I don't see drastic improvements there. ND should win 7-8 games anyway. My Wolverines have a lot of talent, but boy are they ripe for a Notre Dame thrashing. I can't wait for the season to start.

Posted by: ND Fan Location: ND on Aug 20, 2008 at 01:29 PM
RIF never said that, Anon, get a clue. The simple fact that the ONLY thing you do on the sites is bash ND and their fans DOES make you a hater. You, Anon, are the Grand Poobah of Hater State U. Oh, by the way, "Go Irish"! What's MSU got going on this year? Any fans out there? I did not really follow them last year, I just know they always try to bring their A game.

Posted by: Anonymous on Aug 20, 2008 at 01:13 PM
What conference does ND belong to? O that's right they don't belong to a conference so they can play a soft schedule, play a majority of their games at home and not share the big TV contract they have. Join a conference and play by those rules and see what happens. GO BLUE!

Posted by: Rabid Irish Fan Location: Standing Tall on Aug 20, 2008 at 01:12 PM
Figures I get that from a Michigan fan. If you don't like ND, fine. But, when the HATERS run thier mouths and bash the Irish, well, fans like myself answer that call. Get a life? I have one cheering on the Irish just like you do with Michigan. Would you feel better if there was a Rabid Blue Fan? Go to a Michigan fan base web site and you might find one. See, sweetie, that is the difference, I can't stand Michigan, however, I don't go around stalking Michigan fan base web sites, you on the other hand do. Who needs to get a life? You should use this as your "name"..."The Stalker" and there should be some sort of theme song for you...I have it..."Send in The Clowns" perfect.

Posted by: Anon Location: South Bend on Aug 20, 2008 at 12:21 PM
The "haters"?!!? Just because one does not worship Notre Dame football, does not make them a "hater". Get a life, Rabid Irish Fan". Oh, by the way "Go Blue"!

Never too early. The haters have been making predictions about this season as soon as the last ended. Everyone keeps saying Michigan is the test, not so sure about that. If Rich Rod does not have his spread offense set Michigan will be in for a rough ride. I think the only thing that might keep the Irish from being perfect in Sept. is Purdumb. They are going to be trying to send Tiller out a high note, they will be gunning for everyone this season. GO IRISH!!!

Posted by: ND Fan Location: ND on Aug 20, 2008 at 07:39 AM
I am very anxious to see this first game. If we struggle, we're in for a very long season again, and I am not sure I can take that. However, we will win, and head into the Michigan game with a little bit more confidence. Is it too early for predictions?
