It was like a Notre Dame alumni game as the US and Canada battled in the women's Olympic Soccer quarterfinals on Friday.
1998 alum Kate Sobrero Markgraf and 1999 grad Shannon Boxx represented the US while Candace Chapman and Melissa Tancredi were on the other side of the pitch for Canada.
Boxx proved to be the difference maker in overtime as she delivered a perfect pass to Natasha Kai in 102nd minute and Kai scored the game-winning goal as the US beat Canada 2-1 to advance to the Olympic semifinals. Boxx was credited with the assist.
The Americans will face Japan in the semifinals on Monday at 9am EST.
