Cubs clip Cards to hold onto four-game edge

Ryan Dempster was his usual dominant self at Wrigley Field on Sunday night as the Cubs defeated the Cardinals, 6-2. Chicago is now four games up on Milwaukee in the division.

The pitching duel between Dempster and Chris Carpenter went into the sixth with the Cubs up 2-0. It ended when the 2005 Cy Young winner left with pain in his arm. The Cubs then took advantage of terrible defense by the Birds to score four more times and go up 6-0.

Jeff Samardzija gave up a pair of runs but was never in any real trouble of losing the lead.
