Disgraced former NBA referee Tim Donaghy comes up for sentencing Tuesday.
He could get nearly three years in prison after admitting he took thousands of dollars from gamblers for inside betting information.
An evaluation filed on the eve of his sentencing calls Donaghy a pathological gambler who could not stop himself.
Gambling treatment counselor Stephen Block writes that Donaghy started betting on golf games in 1994. Eventually, he bet up to 500 dollars a hole.
Since his guilty plea, Donaghy has claimed corruption among referees runs deeper, drawing angry denials by the league and demands that he pay hefty restitution.
