There is perhaps nothing more that Mishawaka senior Evan Forslund enjoys more than being a part of the Cavemen baseball team.

But last Thursday, that was all put in jeopardy.

"I was at my friend's house swimming and I jumped off the diving board too far and I hit the incline of the pool," Evan explained.

Forslund was rushed to Memorial Hospital. He had fractured three bones in his neck.

"I can hardly talk about it without crying," Evan's mom Candace said.

But mom's tears would turn to ones of joy as the Forslunds learned the fractures had not reached the spinal cord. By inches, Evan will make a full recovery.

"When the doctor came in, she told us it was the best day of his life," Candace said with tears in her eyes.

"It was the best day of our lives. I'm very pleased. By the grace of God, he's going to walk."

And not only will he walk, Evan will be able to return to the sport that he loves.

"That was the first thing I was thinking about," Evan explained from his hospital bed last Friday.

"Would I ever be able to play baseball again? Luckily I will be able to."

A day after Evan's injury, a pair of college football hall of famers paid him a visit. Reggie Williams has had six surgeries in the last three months that have left him without a knee. He immediately provided Evan with words of support.

"You're young, you're tough and you're going to make it," Reggie told him. "I'm looking you in the eye and I know you're going to make it."

The visit certainly was a boost for Evan.

"It's going to help me out a lot, knowing how hard they had it and that they are happy," Forslund explained.

Evan left the hospital Friday night and is recuperating at home. He will wear a neck brace for the next 8 weeks, but after that is expected to be completely healed.

Forslund, a catcher, was an all NIC 1st team player last season, hitting .490 during conference play.

"I'm just happy that I'm going to be ok."

cmf- do not read any more of these idiots' posts. You believe what you want (and I agree)- that God had his hand in this. The rest of them can go to... well, we know where they are going, don't we? Best wishes to you, your son, and your family. And... GOD BLESS.

Some of you people don't get it. The type of fracture my son received should have killed him the pool. So by the Grace of God he will walk again. So this is the statement that some you have a problem with. This is not a fanatical statement. I am merely saying I am thankful he is not died and he will walk again. Why do some of you choose to live your life in such torment. You lash out at people for their beliefs in God. Why does that threaten you? Is it a stubbornness to the fact there is a high power that made the universe and us all. By faith I believe the things unsee.

BD, that has got to be the stupidest thing I have ever heard. I also love how people say that "believing in God is common sense." What a joke! It is the exact opposite of common sense. So....what was before God? I love how it is not okay with you bible thumpers that man showed up over time, and you just ignore that it doesn't make any sense for God to just exist before anything? What created God? What was before God? Where did he come from?

The doctors had noting to do with where and how bad his fractures were in his neck. Sure doctors are skilled (I thank my God, The Lord Jesus Christ for them) in rehabilitating him, but if he had died from his injures the doctors skills mean nothing. Until you have Christ in your heart you cannot understand His ways. My prayer is that this Accident will bring people to Christ.

Anonymous - Let's keep it that way.

It takes a lot more effort to believe there isn't a God than there is! I'd rather live as there is one than finding out when I die I lived as if there isn't - then it will be too late! To all of those who don't believe - first get over your ego - that is the problem! Do all on the "non-believers" really think we're here just by "ACCIDENT"? Are you serious? My thoughts and prayers go out to this family as I can only imagine what it was like until the doctors gave the family the Good News! God Bless!

So happy to hear that your recovery will be full and soon. Our thoughts and prayers go out to all of you.

Reasoned voice, you are absolutely correct. Let these other morons believe in myths and fairytales. Half of these lunatics would refuse modern medicine claiming the God alone will heal their kids. I have seen it with my own eyes. The parents should be locked up. Nuts. I have to go fly away on my unicorn now for tea with the Easter Bunny.

Thanks and prayers to God for your recovery.

Reasoned voice - What an 'enlightened individual', you claim to be. Have you ever contemplated just exactly how these scientists achieve a level of intelligence, that allow them to 'advance' medicine. Neanderthal! They are 'gifted people' and that 'gift' comes from GOD!!!

Remember, it's not the "grace of god" that will allow him to walk again, it's the advances of medicine (i.e., SCIENCE), that will. god is imaginary, science is real.

Thank God you will be ok, young man. Best wishes to you, your HS baseball career and your family.

I coached against this young this past season and the thing I noticed first about him was his toughness. Its attributes such as this that will get him through this tough time. I am so happy to hear that he will be ok and can recover from this accident. Good luck to you Kevin!

God will heal you and get well.
