No one has kissed the bricks at Indianapolis Motor Speedway more than Jeff Gordon.
#24 has won the All-State 400 at the Brickyard four times in its 14-year existence, including the inaugural race in 1994.
"We go to 38 races a year, we are spread pretty thin at times and it gets pretty hectic," Gordon told Newscenter 16. "But coming to Indianapolis is always fresh and exciting."
"It's just such a big event. There is so much history and great fan support here in Indianapolis. There is not a single team or driver that doesn't want to put every possible thing they got to try and win this race."
But it's been since 2004 since Gordon last won in Speedway, Indiana.
And this season, the 4-time Sprint Cup champion has been completely shutout from victory lane.
So there is nothing more he would rather than a win this Sunday.
"We're really excited about that opportunity to try and get number five and get our whole season turned around," Gordon said.
"We haven't had the greatest season so far, but a win here, that can definitely get your season going in the right direction."
Tony Stewart has won two of the last three races at IMS, including last year.
Green flag drops at the Brickyard at 2pm Sunday.
