USC and Notre Dame extend football series thru 2023

Michigan may be off the schedule and the future of games versus Purdue and Michigan State remains unclear, but Notre Dame is ensuring its most important rivalry will continue for at least another decade.

USC announced that its series with the Irish has been extended thru 2023. When the current extension is up, the longest continuous cross country rivalry will be nearing 100 years. The series first began in 1926.

USC will continue to host the Irish on the Saturday after Thanksgiving in even numbered years while Notre Dame will continue to host the Trojans in mid October on odd years.

Notre Dame begins playing 5 ACC opponents a season in 2014 and that could alter many of their traditional rivalry games but Athletic Director Jack Swarbrick said from the beginning that Navy, USC and Stanford would not come off the schedule.
