Marian wins thriller in 11 innings to advance to baseball semi-state

It took about 15 minutes for Marian and Lakeland to each score a run in Wednesday's 3A baseball Regional Championship game at Marian High School.

It then took three more hours to score the game's next run.

That came in the bottom of the 11th when Danny Ranschaert blasted a walk-off base hit to score Coley Parker and give Marian a thrilling 2-1 win to capture a regional title for just the second time in school history.

That other Regional championship came 10 years ago in 1998.

The Knights now head to Semi-State where they will face 30-1 Andrean Saturday at 1pm at Plymouth.

The winner will advances to the Semi-State championship which will be played Saturday night at 8pm at Plymouth.

After Lakeland scored the game's first run with a home run in the top of the 1st, Nassir Charmat evened things up in the bottom of half with an RBI single.

The game then turned into a pitcher's duel.

Patrick Asdell was excellent for the Knights, pitching 8 innings, giving up just the one run.

Dillon Pranger was also very effective for the Lakers, even after completing his duties on the mound.

In the bottom of the 7th, Pranger was in right field and made an outstanding diving catch to prevent a Marian rally.
