Rain couldn't stop the fastest sport on feet.
Despite brutal conditions, a great crowd saw the Notre Dame lacrosse team beat Colgate 8-7 in overtime to advance to the NCAA Quarterfinals for the first time since 2001.
The Irish were hosting their first-ever NCAA tourney game and did not disapoint the home crowd, despite trailing the entire game.
Junior Peter Christman scored the game-winner with 1:28 left in overtime.
The Irish will face 3rd seeded Syracuse in the Elite 8. The Orange crushed Canisius 20-3 in their opening round game.
The two will square off at 3pm next Sunday. It will be a virtual home game for Syracuse as it will be played in nearby Ithaca, NY.
Notre Dame trailed 5-2 at the half and 7-5 with four minutes left.
Neal Hicks pulled the Irish within one with a goal with 3:45 to go in the game.
And with 1:29 left in regulation, Michael Podgajny scored to force overtime.
Eight different players scored Notre Dame's eight goals.
Goalie Joey Kemp had an outstanding second half and made a huge save in overtime with his legs that prevented Colgate from winning the game.
The win gives the Irish 14 on the season, tying the school record. They have also won a program best 19 straight at home.
