As part of the off-site series of Notre Dame football games, the Irish will face off against Arizona State on Oct. 5, 2013 at the new Dallas Cowboys stadium in Arlington, Texas.

The Notre Dame football team will begin their series of off-site games in 2009, with their first game against Washington State in San Antonio. The Irish will play one game per season at locations in states like Texas and Florida.

In a statement released today, Notre Dame athletic director Kevin White said, “We've approached these games almost as mini-bowl games. We expect our marching band to travel to these contests, and we believe these events will provide great opportunities for our constituencies to see our team play when they may be otherwise challenged to travel or obtain tickets for games in South Bend.”

The 2013 game will be the first meeting between the Irish and the Sun Devils since 1999.

This will also be the first time Notre Dame will play in the Dallas area since the end of 1993 season when the Irish defeated Texas A&M in the Cotton Bowl.

“We’re thrilled to have a chance to return to North Texas where Notre Dame football has had such a rich tradition, particularly through our appearances in the Cotton Bowl over the years,” said White.

The game will be played in the new Cowboys facility, which is currently under construction. It’s set to open in the summer of 2009 and will hold 80,000 fans.

NBC will have the television rights to broadcast the game.

It's all about ND making money. ND don't give a hoot about the fans! Kim, go back to the kitchen and bake some bread for the tailgate!

Anon, we have had our rough times, there is no doubt about it, but we have had some really good seasons too in the past 20 years. This should be interesting, my partner at work is a huge ASU fan, I can just imagine the banter between the two of us about this game. I think you are right RIF, it will be a PPV game. If not, get to the bar early that day!

Disappointed...I moved to Arizona 8 years ago and was aware that Notre Dame & ASU had a game coming. But... that is a disappointment that they are not playing in Arizona.

So what. That is over five years away. Slow news day?

RIF, that bowl post was an obvious response to "B"...obviously... Rowdy, they must be hoping for a better next 5 years than they had the past 20.

I suppose Notre Dame has enough fans around the country to warrant playing a game in Dallas but you bring in Arizona State as the other team? I think N.D. SEVERELY overestimates their popularity here in Texas to expect to fill up that stadium playing a Pac 10 team. U.T., A&M, Tech or somebody like that would have made more sense.

Thank you for the info. Anon, learn to read, it is not a Bowl game. You are right though, winning at all costs should be #1 right now. But I think Notre Dame is more than able to figure that out on thier own. I hope.

Hosting a bowl game? Shouldn't they concentrate on GETTING to a bowl game or maybe even winning one?

Naw, B, they will make it a PPV type thing. John Elway has a kid going to ASU, my buddy lives out in AZ near Tempe, but, I think he will be out by then. This is all about money and a lot of programs are doing this. I guess if it gives people a chance to see the Irish play who could not make it South Bend, great. I wonder if WNDU could follow up with this question I have. Do this Irish lose a home game a road game for this or does it alternate every other year?

This is part of the 7-4-1 scheduling plan. 7 home games, 4 away games, 1 "neutral" game that basically counts as a home game because Notre Dame will control it for ticket sales and TV rights. This neutral game replaces a 5th "away" game. -WNDU.com

Why??? How about Notre Dame hosting a bowl game. Who cares about about playing in Texas which by the way will be the second time for the Lone State and why Texas. I'm guessing fans will have to read about the highlights of the game come Sunday morning in the Tribune. Remember when ND traveled to CO and played AirForce and it was not televised but only at sports bars? Lame.

That's 5 1/2 years from now. Who cares? A lot can happen between now and then.
