A jury has started deliberating in the first trial arising from a San Francisco-area steroids distribution ring that's been linked to slugger Barry Bonds.
A federal jury got the case after closing arguments in the trial of former elite cyclist Tammy Thomas. Like Bonds, she's accused of lying to a grand jury that was investigating BALCO, the Bay Area Laboratory Co-Operative.
Prosecutors aired a list of medical oddities they say showed former cyclist Tammy Thomas lied when she denied taking steroids. The defense argues that the designer drugs Thomas is accused of taking weren't listed by the government as steroids until after her grand jury testimony.
The seven-day trial offered a preview of the government's case against Bonds.
