Tom Crean to fill IU basketball vacancy

Tom Crean, who's been the head coach at Marquette for the past nine seasons, will take over as Indiana's next coach. Two independent sources confirmed for NewsCenter 16 on Tuesday that Crean would be the choice. A member of the IU Board of Trustees told EPSN that "it's a done deal and we're very happy."

Crean won nearly 200 games for the Golden Eagles while coaching in Milwaukee. He took Marquette to the Final Four in 2003. Marquette finished 5th in the Big East this past season.

It's been a tumultuous season for IU basketball. At one time, the Hoosiers were 22-4 then head coach Kelvin Sampson was fired for NCAA infractions. IU went 3-4 in the last seven games and look lethargic losing to Arkansas in the NCAA first round.

On Wednesday it was announced that Armon Bassett and Jamarcus Ellis had been dismissed from the program by interim coach Dan Dakich for disciplinary reasons. Star guard Eric Gordon will make an annoucement on his future on Monday. It's expected that Gordon will enter the NBA draft.
