Rain dampens Yankee Stadium's last opening day

Rain has spoiled what would have been a little piece of history for Yankee Stadium.

This is the final year for the famed New York ballpark. And what would have been its only opening day game ever in the month of March yesterday was not to be. The game got called on account of rain.

Yankee owner George Steinbrenner showed up around noon for the 84th opener but the rain was steady, washing out batting practice, planned festivities and the game.

The New York rain is expected to clear by tonight and the Yankees are hoping to get in their season opener against Toronto. Only it's April.

Next year, the Bronx Bombers move into a new one-point-three billion-dollar Yankee Stadium being built across the street from the old park.
