ChiSox and Tigers both fall on opening day

The White Sox got a pair of home runs by Jim Thome but fell to the Cleveland Indians, 10-8 to open the 2008 season. The Tribe plated seven in the second, knocking out Mark Buehrle. Chicago rallied to tie the game at seven on a two-run hit by Paul Konerko but a three-run double by Casey Blake gave the Tribe the victory.

The Tigers lost a lead and the game to the Royals on Monday. A sacrifice fly by Tony Pena, Jr. was the winner in the top of the 11th. MIguel Cabrera and Carlos Guillen both homered for Detroit. Alex Gordon knocked one out for KC and also made a dazzling play to end the game with the tying run on second base.
