Cubs fall to Brewers to open 2008

Opening day at Wrigley Field for 2008 had a little bit of everything for the fans. Before the game with the Brewers, Hall of Famer Ernie Banks was honored with the unveiling of a statue of number 14 on the west side of The Friendly Confines. Among those on hand to salute Mr. Cub were former teammates Ron Santo and Billy Williams along with Hank Aaron.

The game turned out to be a great pitcher's duel between Carlos Zambrano and Ben Sheets. Both left the game wthout giving up a run. Zambrano left in the 7th with an injured finger.

In the 9th, Kerry Wood came on in relief and promptly gave up three runs. But rookie Kosuke Fukudome blasted a three-run homer off Eric Gagne to give the Cubs new life.

But a sacrifice fly by Tony Gwynn, Jr. in the 10th proved to be the deciding run in the Brewers, 4-3 win.
