When Muffet's Squad faces defending national champion Tennessee in the Sweet 16 Sunday, South Bend St. Joseph's High School will be well represented.
Former teammates Melissa Lechlitner (Notre Dame) and Sydney Smallbone (Tennessee) will be on opposite sides as both play in their first ever NCAA Sweet 16.
"I don't even know," Lechlitner said with a huge smile on her face. "High school teammates, first Sweet 16. Is this even possible?"
"I don't know man. It's pretty awesome."
Smallbone is just as excited.
"I got to see Melissa and Becca Bruszewski just brushing by in the hallways," Smallbone said after Tenessee's win over Purdue in the 2nd round last Tuesday.
"I grew up playing with Melissa for many years in high school and AAU and playing AAU with Becca. They are two of my childhood friends and it will be a great experience playing them in the Sweet 16."
The Irish and Lady Vols battle at 9:30 Sunday Night in Oklahoma City. The winner moves on to the Elite 8 to face either Duke or Virginia.
