Irish women feel no pressure heading into Sweet 16

If you look at the national media, it's as if Tennessee doesn't even have an opponent for the Sweet 16.

the 5th-seeded Notre Dame women's basketball team is getting no attention as it heads into its regional semifinal matchup with the defending national champions.

Because of that, the Irish aren't feeling much pressure. You could sense that as the team boarded the buses to leave the Joyce Center and hit the road for Oklahoma City.

The Irish flew into the Sooner State Friday night.

"We have nothing to lose," senior captain Charel Allen explains. "We just go in there and fight."

"That's how we came into Oklahoma--nothing to lose---just go out and play. We were the underdogs in that game. We're the underdogs in Sunday's game."

Fellow captain Tulyah Gaines agrees.

"They are a great team," the senior guard explains about Tennessee. "We have to get out there and play a great basketball game, but we have nothing to lose."

"We can go out there with no expectations and and play our game. That's an advantage I believe."

The Irish and Lady Vols will battle Sunday night at 9:30pm. The winner moves on to the Elite 8.
