The town of Bourbon may turn into Bourbon Street Saturday night.
That's because the Triton boys basketball team will return home State Champions for the first time in school history.
The Trojans defeated Indy Lutheran 50-42 to win the 1A State Championship at Conseco Field House Saturday morning.
Mental Attitude Award winner Jake Everett led Triton with 16 points and four rebounds. Fellow senior Troy McIntyre added 14 points.
Everett is the 2nd Mental Attitude Award winner in school history.
It is the 4th overall state championship for Triton. The Trojans have won it all twice in girls basketball.
The game was one of the lowest scoring in State finals history.
After Lutheran scored the first five points, Triton would score the next 12, stretching into the 2nd quarter.
The Trojans would not relinquish the lead from there.
Triton led 19-12 at the half.
Lutheran pulled within three in the 3rd, but Trojan freshman Griffyn Carpenter ended the rally with a three pointer.
The Boys from Bourbon never looked back.
The Trojans finished with a 25-2 record. Their only two losses came in February to 3A schools Rochester and Tippy Valley.
With seven seniors, Triton finishes off a season to remember exactly the way its players dreamed of doing as kids.
