Notre Dame used an 11-0 run to take control and never relinquished it on Thursday defeating George Mason in the NCAA tourney, 68-50. All-American Luke Harangody had 18 points and 14 rebounds for the Irish which led by twelve at halftime.
Notre Dame will play 4th seeded Washington State at 6:40 EST on Saturday in Denver. The winner will advance to the Sweet 16.
Thursday's win was one of the better defensive games of the season as ND forced George Mason into bad shots and pushed the lead close to 20 on several occasions. One disturbing facet for Mike Brey was the fact that in the second half, the Patriots had several point blank shots but the Irish got most of the bounces (and to their credit) took advantage.
ND was hot early from outside the arch hitting 6 of the first 10 shots from long-range. The only offense that George Mason could generate was Will Thomas on the inside as he scored 25.
