If before Notre Dame's game with Marquette you could have been assured that every Irish starter would be in double figures with Kyle McAlarney scoring 20, Zach Hillesland 15 and Luke Harangody adding 14-it would be a safe bet that it would be an ND win over Marquette.
Not even close. In a game where the final stats were brutally misleading, the Golden Eagles sent the Irish packing in the Big East tourney, 89-79.
Notre Dame had a six-point lead at halftime with Harangody playing only about nine minutes due to foul trouble. But the second half saw Jerel McNeal score nearly at will as he tallied 28 as Marquette grabbed the lead. A three-pointer by Rob Kurz cut it to a three-point game but Maurice Acker, the back-up point guard, scored 11 points on four shots to give Marquette the easy road down the stretch.
ND is now 24-7 and awaits word on the NCAA bid which will be announced on Sunday. The Irish are now 4-13 in the history of their play in the Big East tourney
