Aaron Griffey scored 17 points and Mike Landis added 15 to lead Jimtown to a 46-34 win over Fairfield in the opening round of the Westview 2A Boys Sectional on Wednesday night.
Jimtown led 21-13 at the half and slowly extended the lead in the 3rd quarter thanks to the play of Griffey inside.
The Falcons were overmatched by the size of Griffey and fellow senior Derek Johnson. Griffey is 6'6" and Johnson is 6'10".
Fairfield has just one player--Andy Curry--that is taller than 6'3". Curry led Fairfield with nine points.
Jimtown moves on to Friday's sectional semifinals. The Jimmies will face LaVille in the 2nd game following Bremen and Westview. That game is a 6pm start.
At Wawasee, Lakeland defeated Whitko 64-45 in the 3A Sectional.
The game was tight in the 1st half with Whitko leading by one at the break.
But the Lakers pulled away in the 2nd half.
Lakeland will face Columbia City, a 56-37 winner over West Noble in Friday's Semifinals. The game will follow Tippy Valley and Northwood, scheduled for a 6pm tip at Wawasee.
At Plymouth, Glenn rocked Culver Academy 63-26. Glenn will face New Prairie in the semis on Friday.
The other semifinal will be determined on Thursday night. Marian and Rochester will meet at 6pm.
The Sectional's top two guns---Plymouth and St. Joe will follow at 7:30 on Thursday at Plymouth.
Plymouth is the defending 3A State Champion and the reigning Northern Lakes Conference Champions.
St. Joe enters the game Co-Champion of the Northern Indiana Conference.
Highlights of Plymouth-St. Joe can be seen Thursday on Newscenter 16 at 11.
In Michigan, Zach Eddy scored 18 points to lead Lakeshore past Dowagiac 76-45 in the Class B Boys District Semifinals at Edwardsburg.
Lakeshore dominated from the game's opening tip, jumping out to a 9-0 lead in the 1st quarter. The Lancers led 16-2 after one, not allowing a Chieftain field goal until the 2nd.
Jamie Simpson led Dowagiac with 20 points.
Lakeshore will now face arch-rival St. Joseph in Friday's Championship set for 7pm at Edwardsburg.
The Bears defeated Buchanan 54-50 in the 2nd game Wednesday night.
Brad Guinane led St. Joe with 16 points. Derek Anglero scored 19 for Buchanan.
At Cassopolis, rivals Centreville and Constantine battled with a spot in the Class C District Championship on the line.
Kendall Hackney scored 27 points to lead Constantine to the 64-48 win.
The Falcons opened up a 17-6 lead in the 1st quarter, but the Bulldogs battled back to pull within 5 in the 2nd.
Constantine will face Cassopolis in Friday's Championship at 7pm. The Rangers beat Marcellus 67-58.
Justin Jackson and Chris Morgan each scored 19 points to lead Cassopolis.
At Watervliet, Bridgman defeated River Valley 67-49 to advance to the Class C District Championship. The Bees will face New Buffalo in Friday's Championship.
The Bison defeated Eau Claire 52-27.
