Baseball's seven-time Cy Young Award winner Rogers Clemens should know by the end of the week whether Congress is going to call for a criminal investigation of whether he lied.
Clemens' ex-trainer Brian McNamee told lawmakers in a joint appearance with the pitcher that he injected Clemens with steroids and human growth hormone at least 16 times between 1998 and 2001. Clemens denied it. Both men were under oath.
If Congress does call for a probe and the Justice Department agrees, investigators would try to find out who told the truth and who didn't.
Members of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee met yesterday to discuss how to proceed on the Clemens matter, but no one is saying what went on.
Clemens has begun spring training in Florida and isn't commenting.
