Dowagiac girls beat Buchanan in Districts

Sophomore Torie Lowe was clutch down the stretch as Dowagiac held off a big Buchanan 2nd half run in a 50-44 win in the 1st round of Michigan girls districts on Monday.

Lowe scored 13 points to lead the way for the Chieftains. Katy Stuppy, Dowagiac's all-time leading scorer, didn't have her best shooting night, but hit big free throws in the final minutes. Stuppy finished with 12 points.

Stuppy also had a big steal in the closing seconds of 1st half that led to a Sada Nealey layin at the buzzer. Dowagiac led 28-19 at the break.

Hayley Cashier pulled Buchanan within two in the 4th with a turnaround jumper. The senior led all scores with 23.

Buchanan closed the gap to one but could never take the lead in the 4th.

Dowagiac faces St. Joseph in the District semifinals Wednesday at 6pm at Berrien Springs HS.

Part 1 of that features air Tuesday on Newscenter 16 at 5:30. With Part 2 airing on Thursday at 5:30.
